Dental bridges are fixed dental restorations used to replace one or more missing teeth.

They “bridge” the gap left by missing teeth by attaching an artificial tooth to the natural teeth (or implants) on either side.

Dental bridges are a common and reliable way to replace missing teeth, especially when the surrounding teeth are healthy enough to support them.

In simple terms:

A dental bridge fills the space of a missing tooth and is permanently fixed in the mouth—it doesn’t come out like a denture.

How a dental bridge works:

  • The artificial tooth replaces the missing tooth.
  • The teeth next to the gap (called abutment teeth) support the bridge.
  • Crowns are placed on the abutment teeth to hold the bridge in place.

Why dental bridges are used:

  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Improve appearance.
  • Prevent nearby teeth from shifting.
  • Maintain proper bite and face shape.

Who is a good candidate for a dental bridge?

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Have one or more missing teeth.
  • Have healthy teeth or implants on either side of the gap.
  • Want a fixed (non-removable) tooth replacement option.
  • A dental examination is required to determine suitability.
